Charlie Strong delivered bad news about senior wide receiver Doug Beaumont on Monday's Big East coaches call. Louisville, according to Strong, will travel to Arkansas State this Saturday, but won't have the services of their leading receiver.
Beaumont, who made nine catches for 121 yards in Louisville's last game against Oregon State, is out of action after undergoing surgery on his knee last week. Though it's been speculated that Beaumont could return in one month, Strong didn't offer a timetable on his return Monday morning.
“Doug had surgery on his knee so we'll have to see how long he's out. I do not know,” Strong said.
True freshman Jarrett Davis is listed atop the depth chart in Beaumont's place heading into the contest against Arkansas State. Louisville's depth at wide receiver has taken several hits already this season. True freshman Michaelee Harris was lost for the season during preseason camp, and senior Troy Pascley has missed the last two games with injury.
“We have enough players there, but guys need to play well,” Strong said. “You still have [Josh] Bellamy, Andrell Smith, Cameron Graham, we have two [other] offensive guys Vic Anderson and Bilal Powell, [Adam] Froman's playing really well. So we have enough guys. It's just when guys get the opportunity they have to do their job.”
Through the first three games, Beaumont had recorded 16 receptions for 244 yards and one touchdown. He was averaging 15.2 yard per reception, with a long of 73 yards against EKU.
Charlie Strong also updated the status of USC transfer linebacker Jordan Campbell. Contrary to internet rumors, Campbell, according to the Louisville coach, has not been cleared to play for the Cardinals. “My major concern is the guys we have here right now and Jordan hasn't been cleared,” Strong said.
