Sousa discusses Louisville visit

Kevin Sousa, a three-star Michigan commit from Orlando (FL) Lake Nona, made an official visit to Louisville last weekend and gave the Cardinals high marks. Sousa spoke at length with Charlie Strong during his visit and gave InsideTheVille.com the scoop.

Kevin Sousa, a three-star Michigan commit from Orlando (FL) Lake Nona, enjoyed his official visit to Louisville last weekend.

Sousa, a 6-foot-4, 235-pound quarterback/athlete, rated his visit to Louisville a 9 on a 10-scale. Sousa attended the Cardinals 24-21 overtime loss to South Florida Saturday at PJCS and was impressed with the experience.

"It was a good visit," Sousa said. "The game was exciting despite the loss. The atmosphere was good and the fans were excited throughout the whole game. They were real supportive of the players and the coaches. Everybody loves Coach Strong."

During his visit, Sousa spoke with Strong about the possibility of playing for Louisville next season.

"He's a great guy and a great coach," Sousa said. "He's there for the players. He wants players to succeed in life, he's not just looking for them to play football for him.

"I enjoyed talking to him and he took real good care of me the whole weekend," added Sousa. "He asked how I was doing in school, how's life and what I'm thinking about school-wise. He's interested in getting me as a player, but he wants to know Kevin Sousa the person, not just the player."

Though his team struggled this year, finishing the season winless, Sousa passed with 1,902 yards and 12 touchdowns. Through he threw 11 interceptions, Sousa also ran for 878 yards and five more scores on the ground.

"They said I'm a great fit for their offense," Sousa said. "They want to run the traditional spread, but they don't have the personnel to run that. They believe that with me there they can run it."

Sousa didn't arrive for his visit until Saturday morning, but did get a chance to meet and hang out with the Louisville players.

"I talked to the players," Sousa said. "They all talk highly of Charlie Strong and the coaching staff. They're real excited about things and the [direction] things are going. I felt comfortable around the players and coaches."

In addition to Michigan and Louisville, Sousa is also considering Middle Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, USF and FIU. Sousa has two visits left to Wake Forest (Nov. 20) and Vanderbilt (first or second week Dec.) before he makes a decision. Where does Louisville stand after his most recent visit?

"They're one of my top six schools," Sousa said. "I'm still committed to (Michigan). I'm just keeping my options open and looking at different schools. We've talked about that and they're fine with it."

Before he makes a final decision about his future college, Sousa plans to sit down with his coach Anthony Peridiso to weigh his options.

"Wherever coach Peridiso suggests I go to I'm going to sit down and look at that because he's been there with me every step of the way and I believe in him," Sousa said. "Whatever he says is best for me I'm going to listen to him. He wants me to take all of my official visits and then we'll talk about it. I think I'll have a decision by January."

What does Peridiso say about Louisville?

"He's excited about Louisville," Sousa said. "It's a tough decision. I'm not sure yet. I have to take all my visits and see where the best fit is for me."
