This weekend is a slow one on the AAU circuit. Only two major events are going on, and both are…
Purvis' four-star 2013 teammate likes L'ville
2013 Winston Salem, N.C. small forward Greg McClinton opened eyes last summer playing on the same AAU team as Rodney Purvis. This weekend, McClinton visited Rick Pitino's program with the future Louisville guard. McClinton, 6-foot-6, 180, is a four-star Scout.com prospect. He is rated the No. 7 small forward in his class nationally, and holds early offers from Miami, Wake Forest, Xavier and Virginia Tech. "I liked it a lot," McClinton said of his visit to Louisville. "I liked the players, they were all cool. I liked all the coaches. I liked the facilities and the school. I liked it all. It was a really good trip." McClinton made a name for himself this summer playing with the Chris Paul All-Star's. Louisville discovered the versatile prospect while watching Purvis, who verbally committed to the Cardinals last month. "Louisville got involved last summer," McClinton said. "Me and Rodney played on the same [AAU] team and we used to talk about Louisville. Rodney is the one who actually told me that Louisville was interested in me. Since then I've been talking with their coaches and planned the trip to go up there." McClinton maintains frequent contact with Louisville assistant Tim Fuller. "I call him every week or every other week," said McClinton. "He's visited me twice. He told me my style of play would fit into how they play. They think I would fit in real good with how they do things. They haven't offered me a scholarship, but they're showing really high interest." Though Louisville hasn't offered McClinton a scholarship, the Winston-Salem Prep star has strong interest in the Cardinals. "I like the coaching staff, they're real cool, and they've got some good players coming in," McClinton said. "The team is going to be good the next couple years. And I like the facilities they have…the new arena they have is ridiculous. I love the fans. The fans are crazy. I like it all." During his visit, McClinton had an opportunity to talk with Pitino, watch the Cardinals prepare for a game, and experience the Louisville vs. Kentucky atmosphere at the KFC Yum! Center. He also had a chance to hang out with several of Louisville's current players, including Peyton Siva and Rakeem Buckles. "Me and coach Pitino talked," McClinton said. "He told me that when it comes down to decide on college you have to make sure you like the coach and you can't listen to everything you hear during the recruiting process because other schools are trying to sell you to come to their school." Though it's still very early in the recruiting process, McClinton said he's most interested in Xavier, Louisville and Wake Forest.
