Kinsey excited about Louisville offer
Clint Hurtt made a killing recruiting Miami's Northwestern High School in 2011, landing stars Teddy Bridgewater, Eli Rogers and Jermaine Reve. Now, Hurtt has his sights set on a former teammate of Louisville's talented Northwestern trio. Eric Kinsey, a three-star defensive end, played at Northwestern last season with Bridgewater, Rogers and Reve before transferring to Hollywood (FL) Chaminade Madonna College Prep to improve his academics. Last week, the 6-3, 235-pound Kinsey received an offer from Louisville. "It wasn't really unexpected," Kinsey said. "I talked to Coach Hurtt a few times and I knew the offer was coming. It's very exciting to add another offer to my list, especially Louisville because a lot of my teammates are going there. So that's a great offer for me to get. "Coach Hurtt told me how they really want me and how great it is up there. He told me Teddy, Jermaine and C.J. (Gaines) love it up there and I should visit sometime. He said defense fits me perfect because they love to mix it up." Though Kinsey hasn't kept in touch with Bridgewater since the four-star quarterback enrolled at Louisville in January, he has spoken with Reve, a safety who also enrolled early at UofL, about the Cardinals. "Coach Hurtt recruits my area all the time and they landed Teddy Bridgewater," Kinsey said. "He and I have a great relationship. I haven't talked to Teddy since he's been at Louisville but I have been in contact with Jermaine Reve. He told me they really wanted me and that's it's great up there. He said he's having a great time, he's working hard and I should visit sometime." Kinsey said he hopes to be able to get up to UofL this spring for a visit and to hang out with his old teammates. "I'm planning on coming up there for one of the spring practices," Kinsey said. Kinsey projects at either defensive end or outside backer in college. College coaches are taking a wait and see approach about the position he'll play, though he played mostly defensive end as a junior, recording 14 sacks from that position. "I love going after the quarterback," Kinsey said. "I'm trying to improve in coverage, but I do love going after quarterbacks." Kinsey now hold four offers from USF, Vanderbilt, Louisville and Nebraska. He says academics will play an important role in his college decision. "I have to research these schools before I can talk about having favorites," Kinsey said. "Academics are important. I don't really care about being too close to home. I want to have a great relationship with the players and coaches." Kinsey plans to attend camps this summer at LSU, Florida and Florida State. "I would love to visit Louisville too, and hopefully attend their camp," added Kinsey.
