Several South Carolina commitments were in Columbia for the Gamecocks stunning win against No. 1…
Strong lands late 2011 recruit
InsideTheVille.com has confirmed that Lorenzo Mauldin, a 6-3, 240-pound defensive end for Atlanta (GA) Jackson, has signed to play for Louisville. Mauldin, a three-star defensive end, committed to South Carolina, but didn't sign because of academic concerns. Mauldin visited Louisville last month and recently committed to Charlie Strong. "I thought Louisville's offer was a little stronger than South Carolina," Mauldin said. "They're going to take good care of me and I liked the school when I visited up there. It feels like a place I want to be." Mauldin said he signed with Louisville earlier this week. He recently took his SAT and is awaiting the results to see if he'll be eligible next season. If he doesn't qualify, Mauldin plans to attend a prep school in Charlotte, North Carolina. "Right now I have an SAT score pending," Mauldin said. "I don't have the SAT score to get into Louisville, but there are two options for me. "I can either go to prep school for a semester and end up in Louisville in January in 2012, or I could sign as a non-qualifier and pay for my first year and play next year and have a scholarship for four years." Mauldin, a three-star prospect who ranked as the No. 113 defensive end prospect nationally, felt comfortable at Louisville during his visit last month. "I could relate to the players there, they were down to earth like me," said Mauldin. "The coaches were phenomenal, they gave me their word on what position I would be in when I got there. Coach Strong and Coach Hurtt stuck out to me. I have a bond right now with Coach Strong."
