Michael Bush, Kentucky's Mr. Football and future Cardinal for Bobby Petrino's football program, talked to ITV about participating in the Derek Anderson Kentucky Derby Festival Classic, as well as his preperation for football.

Entering his senior season at traditional power Male High School, Michael Bush was considered the front-runner for both Mr. Football and Mr. Basketball for the State of Kentucky.

Following a All-American regular season in fooball, Bush capped off his year with one of the best performances in Kentucky (if not the country) High School football history. He led the Male Bulldogs to the 4A State Championship against Trinity, where he for 468 yards passing and six touchdowns and ran for 116 yards and another score, in a losing effort. Male lost to Trinity 59-56.

He was promptly honored as Kentucky's Mr. Football soon after and eventually signed on to play football for the Cardinals.

As basketball season began, Bush started slow, due to nagging injuries, but was still able to lead Male in scoring and rebounding with 21.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest.

Following the Kentucky State Basketball Championship, Bush's vote total came up short as he failed to become the first 2-sport athlete to win Mr. Kentucky for both sports.

After failing to win the prestigious honor he announced that he would skip the the annual Kentucky-Indiana All-Star games and focus on football. So, for those that wish to see Michael hoop it up once last time, Saturday night at the Derek Anderson Kentucky Derby Festival Basketball Classic is your last opportunity.

"I've been playing [basketball] just for fun lately," Bush said about his participation in the KDF Basketball Classic. "Right now I just want to go out there with these guys and have fun. This is a great experience to be apart of this."

After being so competitive in basketball over the years one might think that the 6'4, 225-pound high school senior might miss being on the hardwood.

"I won't miss it really," explained Bush. "I can go to the park or somewhere like that and it will be very competitive there as well."

Over the past month, Michael attended most of the Cardinals spring practices to observe the new offensive style of head coach Bobby Petrino.

"Everybody started to bond out there," said Bush about spring practice. "It looked really good. You could see the chemistry starting to happen and that they were having fun and that's what I like."

He's also been studying the offensive playbook, all in hopes of competing for the Cardinals starting quarterback position this fall.

"I have it looked over a bunch of times," Bush said about the offensive playbook. "It's difficult to me because I don't know the language of this offense, but I'm starting to understand it some."

In Friday's Night of the Future Star's at Bellarmine College, Michael showcased some of his basketball abilities by scoring 15-points in the 3-point contest. He advanced to the finals of the event, which will conclude during halftime of the game on Saturday evening in Freedom Hall.
