Gardner, a 6'5, 195-pound quarterback from Douglas (Ga) Coffey County, hopes to earn more offers when he camps at Florida and NC State later this month.
"I went to Alabama and Mississippi State last weekend," Gardner said. "They went real good. I threw for Coach [Nick] Saban and they offered but he's going to give me more information June 18th [about my recruitment]. Alabama is pretty high on my list.
"I also got an offer from Mississippi State and they told me if I were to commit he'd [Dan Mullen] think I was crazy because he thinks you need to go to the school more than once before you commit and that was my first time going up there.
One of Louisville's top quarterback targets in the Class of 2012, Gardner hopes to visit the Cardinals later this summer.
"I just got a letter from Coach Strong about their offer that said they were keeping a scholarship for me until signing day," Gardner said. "He told me they would be back to see me sometime. I've been talking to Coach [Shawn] Watson and Coach [Ron] Dugans. [Coach Watson] is a nice guy, he came down to watch our spring game. He told me I did good and every time he sees me I get better. I still have interest in [Louisville]. We're going to try to [visit] Louisville this summer."
Gardner hopes to make a decision this summer before his senior season begins. "Where ever I feel at home and have the best chance of playing the most," Gardner said. "It's where ever they want me the most."
