'Strong' call for Parnell

'Strong' call for Parnell

Devontre Parnell, one of the top cornerbacks in the south, made a 'Strong' call for Louisville Wednesday after considering an offer from Kentucky.

Devontre Parnell, one of the top cornerbacks in the southeast, committed to Louisville Wednesday morning after narrowing his list to the Cardinals, Kentucky, and N.C. State.

Parnell is the latest coup for UofL coach Charlie Strong, who also scored commitments from a pair of three-star prospects - QB Will Gardner and OL DeAndre Herron - earlier this week. With Parnell in the fold, Louisville has 11 2012 commitments

"I am very excited about going to Louisville," Parnell told Scout.com. "They have a good young team and a great program they are building. I love the coaching staff and they recruited me really hard. I have become very comfortable with them and so are my parents."

Parnell, 5-10, 175-pounds, runs a sub-4.5 forty, and could also factor as a return man on special teams.

"The Louisville coach told me I could come in and start right away and also play on special teams," said Parnell. "They want me to come in and play. The coach was asking me what jersey number I wanted and I told him that I wear No. 1. He said if I came to Louisville I would get it.

As a junior, Parnell had 45 tackles, 5 interceptions, broke-up 15 passes, and scored five touchdowns

"First of all I have great speed and hands," Parnell explained. "I can play bump and run with the wide receivers and that is what I will be doing at Louisville. They play a bunch of man and that's what I like. Also, I have great technique and good ball skills so there is a lot of things I can do."

Parnell, who hails from Winnsboro (SC) Fairfield Central, also had offers from Wake Forest, N.C. State, Vanderbilt, Illinois, and East Carolina.
