Louisville makes strong impression on Gill
Anton Gill made his first visit to Louisville last weekend and Rick Pitino's program made a strong impression on the four-star 2013 guard from Raleigh (NC) Ravencroft. Gill, who has an offer from the Cardinals, attended Louisville's Red White scrimmage Friday night at the KFC Yum! Center ad left highly impressed with UofL's state-of-the-art facility. "It was real fun, exciting," Gill said. "The game was nice. The Yum Center is amazing. The players are cool. Coach Pitino is great, as were all the other assistants. It was fun getting to spend some time with other recruits." Louisville assistant Kevin Keatts is the point man for Gill's recruitment and the No. 9 ranked shooting guard in the Class of 2013 has strong interest in the Cardinals. "They started recruiting me in the spring going into the AAU season," Gill said. "They came to a lot of my games and workouts so far. I like the school and the coaches. I really like Coach Pitino and his style of play. I'm not really in a rush and I don't have a list of colleges. But Louisville is definitely one of the top schools I'm considering." A high-scoring 6'2, 165-pound guard, Gill likes to attack opponents at both ends of the court. That's why Rick Pitino thinks Gill would be a perfect fit for Louisville's uptempo, pressing system. "Coach Pitino is a legend. He's great. He's really good with guards," said Gill. "You see right now Peyton Siva is a great guard and Coach Pitino helps him be the best he can. When I look at it sometimes that could be me in the future if I decide to go there." Gill had an opportunity to talk with Pitino during his visit to Louisville. "We sat down and talked about the system they run and their defensive schemes, how they like to trap and get up and down the floor," Gill said. "He just said they think I'm a player that can help them in the future. He didn't try to rush me. He just said he would like (Louisville) to be one of the places I really consider." Gill has been active in his recruitment, visiting many of the schools that have offered him scholarships. Besides Louisville, Gill also claims offers from ECU, NC State, Wake Forest, Xavier, Rutgers, Miami, Oklahoma State, South Carolina and Florida State. "I've been all over," Gill said. "I went to Miami and UNC. I went to Wake Forest the week before Louisville. I went to Xavier. So I've visited a lot of the schools. There's only a couple I haven't seen." How does Gill compare Louisville to other schools he's visited? What stood out about the Cardinals? "I think the biggest thing for me was the fan support," Gill said. "When you walk into a scrimmage and it's a full house, it's loud, the energy there - that's probably the biggest thing. When you walk down the street, you see the players signing autographs. It seems like a really nice place to play."
