Derrick Calloway is one of the best defensive tackles in Florida, and the 6'1, 310 pound Bradenton (FL) Manatee star has Louisville high on his list of favorites.

Calloway, who helped lead Manatee to the Class 7A state title as a junior, is a strong, athletic defensive lineman who has a plethora of offers early in the recruiting process, including a recent one from Charlie Strong's Cards. Calloway told InsideTheVille.com he has interest in Louisville and hopes to visit Strong's program this summer.

"I do have interest (in Louisville)," Calloway told InsideTheVille.com. "I've been talking to the coach. I would like to come up there and see what kind of program they have."

After evaluating his film, it's easy to see why Louisville offered Calloway, who recorded 55 tackles and eight sacks last season. Louisville isn't the only BCS program on his heels, as Calloway also holds offers from Miami, USF, West Virginia, Texas A&M, UCF, USC and Texas Tech.

"They (UofL) liked how I got off the ball and how physical I am," said Calloway. "They like how I play. I'm good at stopping the run and my pass rush is very good. I'm an all-around defensive tackle."

Though Calloway is still early in his recruiting process, he knows what type of connection he's looking for in a future college.

"Whoever is the most interested and wants me the most is where I would like to visit first to see how they are," Calloway said. "I don't want to go to a school that offered me because another school offered me."

Calloway said that Louisville, USF and Texas Tech have shown him the most recruiting love this spring. Calloway added that he is strongly interested in Louisville and Texas Tech.

"USF, Louisville and Texas Tech," Calloway said. "For sure, Texas Tech and Louisville stand out on my list. I've been talking to those coaches the most out of all the schools. They seem like they're the most interested in me and they have a good program. It seems like I'd have an early chance of playing there."

While Calloway probably won't make any visits until this summer, Louisville and Texas Tech have a good chance to get him on campus for a visit.

"I'm thinking about going to visit schools in the summer," Calloway said. "I want to visit Louisville, Texas Tech and USC. I'm originally from (California) and I'll probably go see what they're like. But I definitely want to go see Texas Tech and Louisville."
