Louisville recently extended a scholarship to Keith Kelsey, a 6'2, 216 pound linebacker from Gainesville, Florida. Though Kelsey, whose father played on Florida's 1996 national title team, grew up a Gators fan, a pair of Big East schools currently standout on his list.

Louisville coach Charlie Strong coached Kelsey's father as a member of Steve Spurrier's coaching staff in the 1990's and has known the younger Kelsey for several years.

"I really like Louisville and Coach Strong. I feel like that's a good school," Kelsey said. "I've known Coach Strong since I was young and I've been around him a lot because he coached my dad (at Florida)."

Kelsey's relationship and familiarity with Strong is a major reason the Cardinals are strongly in the mix.

"I just feel Coach Strong is a good person and he gives everybody an equal opportunity," said Kelsey. "Outside of coaching he's a good person and he understands you as a player and a person. So I feel like I have a good relationship with him."

Kelsey maintains contact with Louisville linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary. Kelsey said he spoke with the Louisville coaching staff recently about the Cardinals offer.

"Me and my dad talked to them last week," said Kelsey. "They like the fact that I'm physical and I can be a leader on the defense and get everybody lined up where they're supposed to be lined up at. I play aggressive."

Kelsey, who recorded 65 tackles, one interception and recovered and forced a fumble as a junior, currently has three scholarship offers from Louisville, Marshall and South Florida. Kelsey recently attended Florida's Junior Day, but doesn't have any more visits planned.

"I'm going to try to check out Louisville, maybe Duke, too," Kelsey said. "I'm going to go out to Florida's practice."

While Florida hasn't offered, Kelsey and his dad maintain contact with Will Muschamp's staff.

"They haven't really talked to me about (offering), they've mostly talked to my dad about it," Kelsey said. "They just tell me to keep working hard and things will come."

Kelsey said Miami and UCF have talked to his coaches recently about offering a scholarship. LSU and South Carolina are also showing interest.

"We'll narrow it down to a Top 5 towards the end of summer and take some visits," Kelsey said. "Right now, I would say Louisville and South Florida stand out, and Florida has always been on my list."
