Badet names favorite

Louisville has emerged as the leader for two-star Orlando (FL) Freedom wide receiver Jeff Badet, but another Big East program could alter his list of favorites with an offer.

Since receiving an offer from Louisville in May, two-star Orlando, Fla., wide receiver Jeff Badet has moved Charlie Strong's program to the top of his list.

Badet, a speedy 5-11, 170-pound prospect from Freedom H.S., also holds offers from Boston College, Bowling Green, Florida International, Memphis and Western Kentucky. But Louisville is currently the team to beat for Badet's services.

"Right now, Louisville is my number one school and then Boston College, FIU and Western Kentucky are my top four," Badet said. "What stands out [about Louisville] is the bond that me and Coach Jean-Mary have and we can basically talk about anything. One of the players on my 7 on 7 team, [UofL DB commit] Terrance Ross, went down there and he said it's beautiful. I just want to visit and see if it's true and see how things go."

Badet said he's planning to make an official visit to Louisville this fall.

"I'm going to try to set something up for September," Badet said. "I think we have a bye-week week 3, so probably in the middle of September. I'd love to visit for the Kentucky game, but we probably have a game that day."

Badet has developed a strong relationship with Louisville assistant Brian Jean-Mary during the recruiting process and says the Cardinals like his playmaking ability.

"At first they weren't going to take any receivers, and then Coach Jean-Mary called my coach and told me to call and that's when they offered," Badet said. "They like how I'm explosive off the ball, how I create space and mismatches on the field, and they feel like I can be a big contributor on the team."

Though Badet has visited many schools, he did check out a pair of in-state programs this summer. One of those programs, South Florida, could become a serious factor in his recruitment with an offer.

"The only schools I've visited are FIU and South Florida," Badet said. "I went to a camp at USF in June. [My list] will probably change if USF offers. But I think Louisville will still be number one, and I'd put USF number two if they offer me."

Badet also expressed strong interest in Florida International.

"FIU was the first offer I received," he said. "They recruit me really hard and tell me I can be a big factor and be a freshman all-american. That's why I have them on the list. I like the campus and the people there."

Ultimately, Badet will have to decide whether he wants to stay home or go away for college. That decision likely will play a major factor in his college choice.

"My dad wants me to pick the best college for me, but my mom wants me to stay in Florida…but she says she wants me to go to the place I can get a good education and play football and she can watch me play on TV," Badet said.

Badet says he plans to make a few official visits before making a decision.
