Pike Settles In At Tight End

Ohio 2014 tight end Devin Pike talks about his first offer and a couple of visits he's made this fall in our latest update.

After sitting out his sophomore season following a transfer of schools, Devin Pike of Cincinnati (Ohio) Elder looked to get his football career back on track with a solid season. While Pike said early in the year he preferred to play defensive end, he found being on the offensive side of the ball is also enjoyable.

"I guess I did better at tight end and like how it's going," Pike said about playing more offense.

At 6-foot-5, 225-pounds Pike enjoyed his two best games of the season against stiff competition with back-to-back seven catch game against Louisville (KY) Trinity and Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward. His overall performance earned him his first scholarship offer.

"Illinois has offered me," said Pike. "I'm talking with their tight end coach Alex Golesh and they see me as a tight end. I know they are recruiting a lot of Cincinnati players and building from the ground up as they rebuild the program."

With his first offer on the board Pike has also visited a couple of other programs this fall.

"I've visited Northwestern, Louisville and Cincinnati," said Pike. "My visit to Northwestern was real good as it was a good game and the atmosphere was great. The new facilities they are building are really impressive and I also like their academics.

"I visited Louisville when they played Kentucky and have been keeping in contact with them. I've also visited Cincinnati when they played Pittsburgh and Miami."

While Pike's older brother Tony found his fame staying close to home as the quarterback at the University of Cincinnati, Devin's more open about looking outside the Queen City and has a few key things he's looking for in a school.

"I'm looking for a school with a good atmosphere and good academics," explained Pike. "Being close to home would be great but I wouldn't mind being a little bit away too."
