Syracuse Wins Battle on the Midway

Syracuse opened the season with a win as the zone suffocated San Diego State aboard the USS Midway. The Orange won their season opener 62-49.

Syracuse used its vaunted 2-3 zone to frustrate the San Diego State Aztecs offensive attack in their regular season opener aboard the USS Midway. Syracuse pulled ahead with a 17-2 run in the first half. They held on 62-49.

Syrachse held San Diego State to 27% shooting from the floor, including 1-18 from three-point range. They also forced 15 Aztec turnovers, including 12 steals. The long Orange interior blocked 10 San Diego State shots.

C.J. Fair and Michael Carter-Williams led the Orange offensive attack that spent most of the night attacking the rim. Each had a game-high 17 points on 9-15 shooting. Fair added 10 rebounds, and Carter-Williams added four assists and four rebounds.

Brandon Triche also had a solid game adding 15 points, four assists, and three rebounds to the mix.

The Orange start the season 1-0, and next faces Wagner on November 18th at 1pm in the Carrier Dome.
