Recruiting picks up for junior QB

Devin Hayes

Bowling Green High School junior quarterback Devin Hayes led the Purples to an undefeated record and Class 5-A Kentucky state football title. Now, Hayes is ready to start thinking about some college interest.

As a first year starter at quarterback, Devin Hayes couldn't have asked for much better. He led Bowling Green High School to an undefeated season.

The Purples captured the Kentucky Class 5-A state title.

And the 6-foot-2, 180-pound Hayes is generating some recruiting chatter.

"I felt like I had a pretty good season," Hayes said. "There were some ups and downs, but I just had to get into a groove.

"I had to do whatever I could to help the team."

Hayes passed for 2,817 yards and 40 touchdowns for the Purples. He scored a 31 on his ACT and said he's going to start thinking about college now.

Hayes visited Louisville for a game earlier in the season and has also had interest from Ball State, Kentucky, Western Kentucky and Nebraska. With his ACT score, Hayes could end up in the Ivy League and has interest from Yale and Harvard.

"I really like Louisville and Vanderbilt," Hayes said. "But we'll see. Right now, I just have to live up to this and hope we can get another (title) next season."
