University of Louisville women's basketball sophomore forward Shawnta’ Dyer is out for the season after tearing her ACL and MCL in her left knee on Sunday at practice.

Dyer will miss the rest of the 2012-13 season with a recovery time of six months.

"We are very sad for Shawnta’," said U of L head coach Jeff Walz. "She has been one of our most consistent players the last year and a half. She has been through a lot, having to sit out her freshman year with the heel injury and coming back with an outstanding redshirt and sophomore season. We know she will have a great recovery and will give it her all during her six months of rehab. The team is keeping their heads up and will rally around Shawnta’. There is now an opportunity for the other players that have not had a lot of playing time to step up and produce for our ball club.”

Dyer started in 10 games this season and was the second leading rebounder, averaging 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. She scored a season-high 14 points on Friday against Colorado.
