Schimmel earns Big East honors

The University of Louisville women's basketball team has the Big East Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Junior Shoni Schimmel earned the honor this week after Antonita Slaughter won it last Monday.

University of Louisville junior guard Shoni Schimmel has been named Big East Player of the Week by the league office for her play in two wins by the Cardinals last week.

Schimmel collected the fifth weekly honor for her career after averaging 26.5 points and 5.0 assists per game in two wins.

In the Cardinals’ 78-75 win at USF, Schimmel scored a career-high 38 points and tied the school record with eight made three-pointers. Schimmel also finished the game with three assists, two blocks and one steal. She was 8 of 14 from behind the arc and 6 of 7 from the foul line.

In a win over Georgetown, Schimmel had 15 points and seven assists.She also pulled down four rebounds and had two steals.

Schimmel finished the week hitting 43.6 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from three-point range.
