U of L women get win and a commitment

It's been a big day for the University of Louisville women's basketball program. The Cardinals tagged Pittsburgh 78-45 in a Big East Conference game and landed a verbal commitment from a top prospect in the Class of 2014.

The Cardinals picked up their 20th victory of the season by trouncing the Panthers before 10,077 fans at the KFC Yum! Center.

Junior Shoni Schimmel led five players in double figures with 22 points and six assists, while freshman Megan Deines had 17 points on 7 of 11 shooting. Bria Smith added 11 points, while Sara Hammond and Antonita Slaughter had 10 apiece.

Not long after the game the Cardinals added a player.

Harveysburg, Ohio, junior standout forward Sydney Brackemyre tweeted out that she had verbally committed to the Cardinals. She had also been considering Michigan and Dayton. She had also been previously considering Xavier, Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue and Vanderbilt.

Brackemyre, who has been ranked as high as No. 30 in the '14 class nationally, is sidelined with a torn ACL. She averaged 17.1 points and 9.1 rebounds as a sophomore at Clinton-Massie High School.

She's ranked as one of the top prospect in Ohio and is listed by several services as a top 20 forward in the country.

Cardinal Authority will have more later.
