"He was a young man who was passionate about USF and really wanted to be here," said Taggart. "So we're excited to have him join this class."
According to Lake Gibson football administrative assistant Teresa Helms the Bulls are getting a good one in Swanson.
"They are getting a getting an absolute steal," said Helms. "And one of the best they could have picked up."
"He can play on both sides of the ball, and excel at both," said Helms. "He was a first team All-State at defensive tackle and rated one of the top fullbacks in the country all year long."
The 6-foot-0, 240 pound 3-star prospect is rated the 5th best fullback in the country by Fox Sports/Scout.com. "It just came down to what was best for his family and him," said Helms. "He was very impressed while on his official visit and the coaches did a very good job with him. He felt real comfortable with them and his decision."
Recruited as a fullback, Swanson becomes the 24th signee in USF's 2013 class.
"Kennard is a tough, hard-nosed player, who brings a lot of athleticism and physicality to our program," said Head Coach Wille Taggart. "He will be a great asset to what we're trying to build on the offensive side of the ball."
