"Tank" lands Number-Eight

When Mark Stoops was hired as the head coach at Kentucky he promised to recruit the state of Ohio more aggressively, and he is certainly doing that. Shaker Heights offensive lineman Ja'Merez Bowen is one of the latest to land a Wildcat offer.

Ja'Merez Bowen is one of Ohio's top offensive line prospects for 2014, and the Shaker Heights product is putting together an impressive offer list.

Bowen was scheduled to visit Louisville this past weekend, but changed plans when Kentucky called his head coach and offered last Friday. A visit to Kentucky took place instead.

"I switched the visit from Louisville to Kentucky on Friday afternoon after I got the offer," Bowen stated. "Kentucky called my coach and told him they were offering, and I went down there Saturday morning."

"Kentucky was great and I really liked it there," he added. "I really liked Coach (Vince) Marrow and we got along good. Everything was very positive there, and you could tell the players all had good chemistry. Going to the basketball game was great, and I really liked their fan base a lot."

The trip to Kentucky was the first college visit for Bowen, and he is hoping to take other trips in order to be able to compare schools.

"I've never really been anywhere else, so I don't have anything to compare them to," he explained. "The campus was great and they're putting a lot of money into the football facilities, which will be great. I would give the visit an eight, on a scale of one to ten, and I plan on going back in the spring."

"I need to visit other schools and I plan on doing that in the next month," he continued. "I want to get down to Louisville still, and I have a visit scheduled to Indiana for next weekend. Until I get out and see more schools I would say that I'm very interested in every school that's interested in me. Kentucky said I'm the type of player they need to improve their program."

In addition to Kentucky, Bowen also holds offers from Indiana, Louisville, North Carolina State, UCLA, Pittsburgh, and others.
