The University of Louisville women’s basketball team ended the regular-season with a 23-7 record and fourth-place finish in the Big East Conference.
The Cardinals receive a double-bye in this week’s Big East Tournament and are in the upper-bracket with top-seeded and league champion Notre Dame.
The tournament begins on Friday in Hartford, Conn., with the championship game slated for next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
U of L ended the season with a loss to Syracuse in a game that was being played for third-place on Monday night in the Carrier Dome.
With the loss, the Cardinals take the No. 4 spot and will play on Sunday at noon. No. 12 Seton Hall plays No. 13 Cincinnati with the winner to play No. 5 St. John’s for the chance to get to play U of L in the quarterfinals.
The Cardinals beat all three teams in their bracket, including a 57-54 win over St. John’s on Jan. 27 in the KFC Yum Center.
Notre Dame finished 16-0 in conference play and is the No. 1 seed, followed by No. 2 Connecticut and No. 3 Syracuse, who are both in the bottom bracket.
No matter what the outcome is in the conference tournament, the Cardinals will return home for the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
U of L will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament at the Yum Center on March 24 and 26. Tickets for the first two rounds can be purchased through the www.NCAA.com website and at the Yum! Center ticket offices. All-session tickets for adults are $32 and $18 for youth/seniors and college students.
The NCAA bracket will be released on March 18.
