It’s been a pretty special year for Tom Jurich.
The University of Louisville athletic director has already guided seven teams to a Big East title, led the charge for U of L’s move into the Atlantic Coast Conference, signed basketball coach Rick Pitino and football coach Charlie Strong to long-term contracts and watched the football team win the Sugar Bowl and the basketball team earn the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
There are plenty of other success stories this year, including the announcement of the state-of-the-art new soccer stadium.
”No question, he’s the best athletic director in the country,” U of L volleyball coach Anne Kordes said after the ACC move was announced.
Now, Jurich has been recognized by others.
Jurich is one of five finalists for the Sports Business award of Athletic Director of the Year among Division I colleges. The winner will be announced on May 22, according to a release posted on the Sports Business website this morning.
The other finalists are: Oklahoma State’s Mike Holder, Alabama’s Mal Moore, Rutgers’ Tim Pernetti and Northwestern’s Jim Phillips.
