"The instant that I met the coaches and toured the campus I knew I wanted to be a Cardinal," Botsoe told Cardinal Authority.
Botsoe extended his verbal commitment to McDonnell on January 18, which proceeded the commitment of his travel club teammate Josh Stowers, who committed earlier this month. He is rated as the No. 43 outfielder in the country by Perfect Game.org. He also ranks as the No. 14 prospect in Illinois and the No. 2 outfielder in Illinois for class of 2015, right behind Stowers.
"That's very exciting," he said of the chance to play with his current teammate on the collegiate level.
Louisville first noticed Botsoe during a showcase event his freshman year and immediately began recruiting the talented athlete. While becoming was the first to recruit and extend a scholarship offer made an impression, Michigan and South Carolina also caught his attention.
"The reason I chose Louisville over Michigan and South Carolina was not only that they started recruiting me as a freshman, but because when I went down there for my visits, the coaches made me feel right at home and I loved it the instant I stepped on campus," he explained. "I know that school comes before baseball and I want major in business or engineering and I know Louisville has some of the top programs in those fields, so that also made my love for Louisville become stronger."
Botsoe, who played for the 14U U.S. National Team in 2011, also believes that Louisville will provide the coaching to reach his goals of playing in the College World Series and reaching the professional ranks.
"I know that Coach Mac and Coach Lemonis will help prepare me for the big leagues along with getting to Omaha and winning a national championship."
Botsoe stays in frequent contact with the U of L coaching staff and will visit Louisville this weekend to take in some of the Cardinals series against Notre Dame. He'll return the following week for a baseball tournament being held in the Derby City.
"I talk to them every week pretty much," he said. "We talk about the game, how the team is going and things like that."
Last season Botsoe, who clocks 60-yards in a blazing 6.6, finished the 2012 travel season third on the team with .364 batting average
