Shoni Schimmel scored 24 points and the University of Louisville women's basketball team slayed another giant on Tuesday night.
The Cardinals, just two nights after beating No. 1 Baylor, tagged second-seeded Tennessee 86-78 and earning the school's second trip to the Final Four.
The Cardinals become just the eighth school all-time in Division I history to send both the men's and women's basketball team to the Final Four in the same season.
"We're like the ugly ducklings that ruined the party," U of L coach Jeff Walz said. "And that's exactly what we were. Nobody gave us a chance in either game and we shocked everybody.
"Everybody talked about our defense, we just hung 82 on a great Baylor team and 85 on Tennessee. We haven't scored like that in about three month. I am just so proud of every single one of them. It is a journey and we're going to continue it."
The Cardinals (28-8), who had built a 20-point lead, now play California on Sunday in New Orlean at 6:09 p.m.
Jude Schimmel added 13 points, Bria Smith had 13 before fouling out, while Monique Reid added 12 and Sara Hammond had 11.
Louisville is making its second trip to the Final Four in five years after the Cardinals lost to Connecticut in the 2009 national title game.
"All or nothing," Shoni Schimmel said. "Nobody wanted to see us win. Nobody wanted to see us beat Baylor and nobody wanted to see us beat Notre Dame. Now, we're going to a Final Four."
