University of Louisville women’s basketball coach Jeff Walz has landed a major target in recruiting. Mariya Moore, a top-25 prospect from Hercules, Calif., has given the Cardinals a verbal commitment on Wednesday.

With already two top commitments in the Class of 2014, University of Louisville women’s basketball coach Jeff Walz has added one of the best players in the country.

Mariya Moore, a 6-foot-1 wing from Hercules, Calif., Salesian High School, committed to the Cardinals on Wednesday. She picked U of L over a bunch of schools, including UCLA, Washington, Kentucky and California.

As a junior, Moore was named Metro-Area Player of the Year by the San Francisco Chronicle after averaging 18.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 4.0 steals a game while leading her team to a 29-8 record. Salesian lost in the state final despite 35 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals from Moore.
