The third-ranked Louisville Cardinals wasted no time building an insurmountable lead when they hosted Hartford at the KFC Yum! Center. Louisville improved to 4-0 on the season with a 87-48 victory.
Led by 11 first half points from Russ Smith and a stingy defense, the Cardinals doubled up the visiting Hawks, with a 42-21 lead at the break.
Hartford's usual slow-paced offense had little affect on the Cardinals. Instead it was Louisville's pressure defense that dictated Tuesday night's result.
The Cardinals forced 25 turnovers and outscored the Hawks 26-5 in points on turnovers.
Highlighted by six dunks, sophomore Montrezl Harrell led all scorers with 20 points on 9 of 12 shooting. Harrell's 9 rebounds were also a game-high.
Russ Smith added 14 points and Chane Behanan and Chris Jones had 11 apiece.
