The University of Louisville women's basketball team trailed 19-4 to start the game and needed a Jude Schimmel steal and layup to force overtime.
But then the No. 3 Cardinals dominated.
U of L outscored Florida State 15-5 in the extra period, staying undefeated with a 69-59 win over the Seminoles before 10,045 fans at the KFC Yum Center on Sunday afternoon.
We don't like making things easy," U of L coach Jeff Walz said.
Florida State had the ball and a 54-52 lead with 30 seconds left when Jude Schimmel swiped the ball away from Ivey Slaughter. She took off down the floor and drove right to the basket, scoring on a layup to tie the game.
Walz then inserted Monny Niamke - who had not played the entire game - in for a defensive stop. She clamped down on Yashira Delgado and the Seminoles could only get off a long three.
It was all U of L in overtime.
Asia Taylor scored four of the first six points, while Shoni Schimmel added two free throws and a three-pointer as the lead swelled to 10 points and the Cardinals moved to 5-0.
"We like to make it interesting," said Shoni Schimmel, noting the team beat Oklahoma in overtime on the road last Sunday.
U of L (6-0) forced 26 turnovers and scored 29 points off the miscues.
Shoni Schimmel led the way with 21 points, while Nita Slaughter had 10. Jude Schimmel added nine points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals, while Tia Gibbs added eight points and seven rebounds for the Cardinals.
U of L will play at Western Kentucky on Wednesday night and at Kentucky next Sunday.
