Smith makes midseason cut for Wooden Award

University of Louisville senior guard Russ Smith has made the cut of 25 players for the midseason watch list for the John Wooden Player of the Year for college basketball. Cardinal Authority has the latest on Smith.

University of Louisville senior guard Russ Smith is having an All-American season.

And the Wooden Award voters believe it.

Smith, who has helped the Cardinals to a 16-3 record this season, made the cut of just 25 players for the midseason watch list for the John Wooden Player of the Year Award.

The award is given annually to the best player in college basketball.

Smith leads the Cardinals in scoring at 18.4 points per game and leads the team with 90 assists. He also has a team-high 37 steals.

For his career, Smith has 1,584 points, 296 assists and 220 steals.
