University of Louisville women's basketball coach Jeff Walz said the No. 4 ranked Cardinals will be without starting point guard Bria Smith for Sunday's monster game at No. 1 Connecticut. The Cardinals have won 16 straight games heading into the matchup with the 24-0 Huskies.

University of Louisville women's starting point guard Bria Smith will miss Sunday's game at defending national champion Connecticut.

U of L coach Jeff Walz said Smith will be sidelined for a second consecutive game with a minor knee injury.

"It's nothing serious but we have to take care of it right now," Walz said. "If we don't then it could be around for a while, she'll be fine."

Walz said he was disappointed he wouldn't have his point guard for a matchup of top five teams. UConn (24-0) is No. 1, while the Cardinals have won 16 straight games and are ranked No. 4.

The last time U of L played a No. 1 team, the Cardinals beat Baylor in the NCAA Tournament last season. U of L has lost to UConn in the NCAA Championship game two of the past five years.

Walz did say he hopes to continue the series with UConn after the Cardinals move into the ACC. He said it likely wouldn't happen next season but he would "hope to do it in future years."

"It's good for us and it's good for them," he said. "They're going to need some quality non-conference games. It would be fun to continue. I like competing against them."
