University of Louisville senior Shoni Schimmel joined some elite company on Wednesday night.
The senior All-American hit a free throw early in the second half of an 81-62 win over Houston to reach the 2,000-point mark for her career. She's just the second U of L women's player to ever reach that mark and only the fifth player in school history - men or women - to hit it.
Schimmel finished the night with 15 points and now has 2,004 for her career. Angel McCoughtry is the school's all-time leader with 2,779.
The only men's players to reach the 2,000-mark plateau are Darrell Griffith (2,333), DeJuan Wheat (2,183) and Pervis Ellison (2,143).
"It's a great honor," Schimmel said.
Schimmel hit just 5 of 11 from the field and 4 of 5 free throws but she also led the team with eight rebounds and had three assists.
Sara Hammond led the Cardinals (26-2) with 17 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Emmonnie Henderson added 12 points.
