Cards tag Vandy 11-7 in top 10 matchup

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Louisville baseball team kept rolling on Tuesday night, beating No. 10 Vanderbilt 11-7 at Hawkins Field. The Cardinals have now won 11 in a row and are 38-11 on the season with seven games left.

The University of Louisville baseball team scored one of its most important - and impressive - victories of the season on Tuesday night.

The Cardinals got three RBIs apiece from Jeff Gardner and Alex Chittenden and three doubles and four runs scored from Cole Sturgeon in posting an 11-7 win on the road at No. 10 Vanderbilt.

The Cardinals scored 11 runs on 11 hits, while taking advantage of two Vandy errors. U of L has now won three in a row against Vandy (36-13).

U of L has now won 11 in a row and will play at Temple this weekend for a three-game American Athletic Conference series.

"This is a big win, but Friday night is just as important," U of L coach Dan McDonnell said. "We are trying to win a conference title."

Josh Rogers started but Brandon Alphin picked up the win after 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Nick Burdi pitched the final two innings, striking out five batters.
