Louisville baseball wins AAC title

The University of Louisville baseball team clinched the American Athletic Conference regular-season title on Friday night, beating Cincinnati 5-1 before 1,745 fans at Jim Patterson Stadium. The Cardinals are 42-13 and 18-5 in the league.

The University of Louisville baseball team won its fifth regular-season conference title in six years on Friday at Jim Patterson Stadium.

The Cardinals dealt Cincinnati a 5-1 loss before 1,745 fans to clinch the title.

U of L is now 42-13 on the season and 18-5 in league play. The Cardinals will be the No. 1 seed in the round-robin AAC Tournament, which begins on Wednesday in Clearwater, Fla.

Freshman Josh Rogers earned the victory after going eight innings, allowing just four hits and one run. He struck out 10 batters.

Jeff Gardner and Nick Solak both hit home runs for the Cardinals. Gardner went 3-for-3, while Solak and and Cole Sturgeon had two hits apiece for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals will finish the series on Saturday at 1 o'clock against the Bearcats.
