The University of Louisville baseball team will play Kent State in the opening game of the Louisville Regional on Friday. Kentucky and Kansas are also in the U of L Regional to be played at Jim Patterson Stadium.

On Sunday, the University of Louisville baseball team was taking off on a commercial flight from Clearwater, Fla., when the Cardinals found out they would host an NCAA Regional.

"We all went crazy," senior left-fielder Jeff Gardner said.

And on Monday, the Cardinals found out the other three teams in the regional - Kentucky, Kansas and Kent State.

U of L will play Kent State at 6 p.m. on Friday, while No. 2 seed Kentucky will face No. 3 Kansas on Friday at 2.

"It's a great accomplishment for our program," U of L coach Dan McDonnell said. "It's a testament to these seniors, who three years ago were not watching the (NCAA Draw) show."

There will be two games on Saturday at noon and 4 p.m. and two more on Sunday at noon and 4 p.m. The Monday game - if necessary - would be at 6 o'clock.

Cardinal Authority will have complete coverage of the regional.
