Cards chatting with 4-star S.C. wing

Perry Dozier

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - With the University of Louisville needing to add an elite wing to the Class of 2015, the Cardinals' staff has been in recent contact with South Carolina four-star Perry Dozier. Cardinal Authority has the latest.

Columbia, S.C., four-star wing Perry Dozier missed his entire junior season after having surgery to repair a torn ACL in his knee.

The 6-foot-6 Dozier said he was expecting many schools recruiting him to put it on hold for a while and was surprised when they did not.

"I was expecting that," Dozier said during the NBA Players Association top 100 camp. "But a lot of the schools stayed beside me and really helped me get through a tough time."

One of the schools that he had heard from before the injury and one still showing him some attention now - Louisville.

Ranked as the the No. 50 prospect in the Class of 2015, said he has been in contact with the U of L assistant coaches and has been on the phone with U of L coach Rick Pitino "a few times."

"Louisville is one of the top schools I looked at when I was growing up," Dozier said. "I talked to coach Pitino and they made sure I knew they were interested in me.

"They said they're going to show some strong interest and it's something for me to look at as I go on in the (recruitment)."

Dozier said the schools showing the most interest are North Carolina, Kansas, Ohio State and South Carolina with "a lot of others," expressing some interest.

"I'm still wide open," he said. "I don't have a single leader or anything like that. All of the schools, even the ones just jumping in, are still in the mix for me."

Dozier said he had a recent visit from UNC coach Roy Williams and noted he would perhaps start making a few visits later this summer.

And for now, he's still just trying to get fully back after the knee injury.

"Almost," he said. "It's almost there. I'm just trying to bounce back and it's getting better all of the time.
