Ex-Northwestern RB headed to U of L

Malin Jones

The University of Louisville football team is adding another transfer. Former Northwestern running back Malin Jones is expected to transfer to U of L for this coming season. He will sit out and have two years left to play. Cardinal Authority has the latest on Jones.

The University of Louisville will now have five transfers sitting out this season.

Former Penn State quarterback Tyler Ferguson, ex-Texas A&M wide receiver Jaquay Williams and former Georgia defensive backs Josh Harvey-Clemons and Shaq Wiggins are all on campus.

The fifth will be former Northwestern running back Malin Jones, who is expected to pay his own way for the first year. He would sit out the 2014 season and have two years left to play.

As a senior at Joliet, Ill., Catholic Academy out of high school, Jones was a Sempre Fi Bowl All-American and as a three-star prospect was ranked as the No. 42 running back in the country by Scout.com.

Jones played in eight games last season for Northwestern, only rushing three times and catching one pass for six yards. He was suspended for the final two games of the season but came back for spring ball and then opted to leave.

Jones, whose father worked at Clear Channel in Louisville before moving to the Chicago-area, picked Northwestern over Notre Dame and Louisville when coming out of high school.
