Burdi signs with the Minnesota Twins

Former University of Louisville reliever Nick Burdi has signed his first professional contract with the Minnesota Twins. Burdi helped the Cardinals to back-to-back College World Series appearances during his time at U of L.

Former University of Louisville reliever Nick Burdi has signed his first professional contract - with the Minnesota Twins.

The No. 46 draft pick recently in the MLB Draft by the Twins, Burdi signed for $1.218 million on Tuesday afternoon.

He signs just a week and a day after finishing his career at U of L in the College World Series. He helped the Cardinals to back-to-back berths into the World Series.

Burdi, who was named National Stopper of the Year by the baseball writers, is expected to report to Cedar Rapids on Friday. Cedar Rapids is the Class A team in the Twins' organization.

As a senior, Burdi had a school-record 18 saves and also had a season-low for U of L 0.49 ERA. He finished his career with the lowest ERA in school history at 1.79.
