Louisville picked 3rd in ACC Atlantic

Preparing to begin life as a member of the ACC, the University of Louisville was picked third in the Atlantic Division from voting at the ACC Kickoff in Greensboro, N.C.

Louisville was picked third in the ACC Atlantic Division during media voting at the ACC Kickoff in Greensboro, N.C.

Entering their first season in the league, the Cardinals trail defending national champion Florida State and Clemson in the voting.

"Obviously we have higher expectations than that," Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino said of the results.

Six different teams received a first place vote in the Coastal Division, with Miami edging out defending Coastal champion Duke for the preseason top spot. Louisville, which defeated Miami 36-9 in the Russell Athletic Bowl in December, will host the Hurricanes in the season opener.

Florida State was picked heavily to win the ACC Championship, followed by Clemson and Virginia Tech.

Last year's Heisman Trophy winner, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston collected nearly all preseason Player of the Year votes.
