U of L recruiting looking mighty 'Peachy'

As fall camp gets started on Tuesday, the University of Louisville football staff has 12 verbal commitments in the Class of 2015. U of L has three this week and has been racking up in two states - Georgia and Alabama.

The day Bobby Petrino returned to the University of Louisville as the head coach - and several times since - he talked about his plan for trying to recruit the South.

Petrino said he wanted to get the best in-state players and keep the Florida pipeline the Cardinals have had in recent years open.

But he also said there were two states he wanted to "put more emphasis" on in the recruiting process - Georgia and Alabama.

Eight months after being hired, the U of L staff is racking up in those states. The Cardinals have seven of the 12 commitments from those two states alone.

The Cardinals have four commitments from the Peach State: linebacker Jonathan Greenard of Hiram, Ga., safety Khane Pass of Columbus, Ga., defensive end Aaron Cochran of Atlanta and offensive lineman Chandler Jones of Powder Springs, Ga. U of L also has four players sitting out this season as transfers from Georgia.

Three of the commitments have come from Alabama: Phenix City running back Traveon Samuel, Demopolis defensive end Tim Bonner and Mobile lineman Troy Thingstad. The Cardinals also have one commitment from the following states: South Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Florida and Mississippi.

Fans can expect a few more Florida commitments in the class, but you can also bet the staff isn't finished with Alabama or Georgia. U of L has offered 20 prospects in '15 from Alabama and around 35 from the Peach State.

Petrino said early in his tenure about dipping into those states and battling the home teams that "they can't take them all."

So, the Cardinals are taking a few.
