U of L frosh leads Team USA to win

University of Louisville freshman Mariya Moore helped lead the USA U-18 national team to a blowout win over Mexico in the FIBA Americas Tournament on Wednesday night in Colorado Springs, Colo. U of L coach Jeff Walz is an assistant coach on the team.

University of Louisville freshman Mariya Moore and head coach Jeff Walz are 1-0 as part of the U-18 USA National team.

Walz is an assistant coach on the team, while Moore had nine points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals in 14 minutes.

The USA team blew out Mexico 104-55 in the opening round of the FIBA Americas Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Moore was 4 of 6 from the field in the game and came off the bench in the contest.

Team USA (1-0) will play El Salvador on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. EDT.

Moore is a California native who was a McDonald’s All-America honors, earned WBCA high school All-America honorable mention accolades in 2014. A two-time San Francisco Chronicle Player of the Year, she finished her career at Salesian High with 2,396 points, 1,110 rebounds, 878 assists, and 535 steals.
