Cards line can go nine deep?

University of Louisville offensive line coach Chris Klenakis said he feels "comfortable" with using nine players on the offensive line.

University of Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino said before fall camp started that a team needed 10 offensive linemen to be in a rotation in order to win a championship.

Well, offensive line coach Chris Klenakis feels like the Cards are close.

Klenakis met with the media on Thursday evening and said the Cardinals he feels "comfortable" with a nine-deep rotation heading into the week before the first game.

"I like them; I definitely like them," Klenakis said of his group. "We've got eight guys, nine guys that we feel real comfortable with right now. We still have 11 days.

"You are always working up to the last minute. We'll still look at other combinations."

Redshirt sophomore Tobijah Hughley is running as the No. 1 center and was awarded a scholarship - after being a walk-on - by Bobby Petrino and is expected to anchor the line from the middle.

Klenakis said Petrino would name the starters but that he was "pleased" with where things stood right now with the line.

Jamon Brown, John Miller, Jake Smith - at guard - and Kelby Johnson are expected to start off on the line. Other guys in the mix for playing time appear to be Chris Acosta, Ryan Mack, Skylar Lacy and Aaron Epps.

"We'll just keep working until we get there," Klenakis said. "The guys are working hard and they're getting there."

Klenakis said he was excited to see Hughley rewarded by Petrino with a scholarship.

"I've had a ton of guys who were walk-ons turn into really good players," Klenakis said. "(Hughley) is a quick learner, likes the game, is excited about it and watches a lot of film. He just has that love and passion for the game."

Klenakis said the three freshmen linemen - Lukayas McNeil, Jimmie Terry and Danny Burns - all have a shot to play but "they're not in (the rotation) at this point. You never know, things could change but they're not right now."
