The City of Louisville is on some sort of a run. The type of run that you might associate with area high school basketball or high school football from a place such as Tallahassee. It's a run that has given the River City the ability to boast about producing some of the elite gridiron prospects over the past few seasons. First it was Male's Michael Bush and then Trinity's Brian Brohm, both of whom now call U of L home, that topped the lists of national recruiting experts. Now it's Central's James McKinney who is poised to be listed among the nation's top prep football prospects.

The 6'3, 270-pound prospect is drawing interest from some the nation's top programs and each seem to express interest in him at a number of positions. Different programs appear to have him pegged for one of three likely positions, defensive tackle, tight end or fullback.

McKinney who has NFL aspirations, hopes to suit up as a tackle on the defensive line once in college.

"Defensive tackles make more money in the NFL," McKinney explained of one of his reasons for wanting to play at that spot.

Close friends with two other players, defensive back and cousin Stephen McKinney of Male and linebacker Brandon Logan of Lexington Catholic, that will be playing on the collegiate level, McKinney hopes to play alongside one, if not both, in college.

Stephen McKinney is set to graduate from Male this year and will join the Cardinal football program in the fall, while Brandon Logan is entering his senior season and like James, is also a national recruiting target.

To date, McKinney, who verbally committed to Michigan last season, but has since reopened his recruitment, has received scholarship offers from Louisville, Michigan, Kentucky, Miami, Ohio State and Notre Dame. He is also receiving heavy interest from Oklahoma and Southern Cal.

Logan has also received offers from Louisville, Kentucky, Michigan and others. The two anticipate making an unofficial visit to U of L to observe the Cardinals practice this week.

Poised to have a busy spring and summer, McKinney will participate in U of L's 7-on-7 camp later this spring, as well as attending a few combines, including TheInsiders.com MSL Combine in Cincinnati.
