Football Begins Preparations for 2004 Season

The University of Louisville football team began preparations for the '04 season.

A total of 105 players worked out on Monday as the University of Louisville football team began fall practice at the Papa John's Football Complex.

Approximately 35 freshmen and transers took the field first at 3:30 and the veterans joined workouts an hour a later. The entire squad worked out for two hours under the watchful eye of head coach Bobby Petrino.

"It was good for the first day of practice," said Petrino. "I thought the players worked hard and showed good technique. We have a long way to go, but I was pleased for the first day of practice. I liked some of the freshmen like Rod Council, Johnnie Burns and Lamar Myles."

The Cardinals continue practice with a 3:30 workout on Tuesday.

Practice Notes:
Seniors Stefan LeFors, J.R. Russell, Kerry Rhodes and Robert McCune were voted by their teammates as captains for the 2004 season. McCune is in his second season as captain as he was selected last season by his teammates.

Freshmen Breno Giacomini was cleared to begin practice on Tuesday. He received a physical after practice and will join the team on Tuesday.
