Stefan LeFors climbed to ninth in career passing yards and tenth in career completions during Louisville's 41-9 victory over South Florida on Friday night.
Senior QB
Stefan LeFors
opened the game connecting on his first 13 consecutive passes for 129 yards and a touchdown. In the last two first quarters against Miami and USF, LeFors combined for a perfect 15-of-15 for 165 yards.
Dave Ragone
holds the school record with 18 straight completions against
East Carolina
on Oct. 26, 2002. Entering the game ranked second nationally in passing efficiency, LeFors completed 21-of-26 for 242 yards and one TD on the night. LeFors moved up to ninth in career passing at U of L with 4,421 career yards and is 10th in completions with 300.
LeFors also rushed for 39 yards on seven carries, his best effort of the season. His top career rushing game was 80 yards on five carries against
Cincinnati
last season. He has 576 career rushing yards, which is just 22 behind Dave Ragone's 597 yards.
U of L produced its best defensive effort of the season by yardage, allowing USF only 203 yards of total offense. The Cardinals have held four of their six opponents below 250 yards this season.
USF completed just 3-of-21 passes for 67 yards, the fewest completions by a U of L opponent since
Army
connected on three passes on Oct. 19, 1991 (3 attempts, 89 yards in that game).
U of L's offense generated 517 yards, its fourth game this season surpassing 500 yard mark. The Cards' 345 passing yards was a season high. U of L passed for over 300 yards on three occasions last season.
The win over
South Florida
was the fourth straight at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and the third this year.
Louisville
is 8-1 under
Bobby Petrino
at home in his first two years with only
Memphis
-- U of L's next foe -- tarnishing that record last season.
Senior WR
J.R. Russell
produced his eighth career 100-yard receiving game and his second of the season (eight catches, 111 yards). Russell moved up to fifth in career receiving yards at U of L (currently 2,057 receiving yards) and sixth in career receptions (150 career catches). He extended his streak to 30 straight games with a reception. He became the sixth Louisville receiver to record more than 2,000 receiving yards.
Senior tight end
Adam McCauley
recorded his first career touchdown reception - a six-yard score in the first quarter.
Junior running back
Eric Shelton
scored on a two-yard rushing touchdown - his ninth of the season. He moved into a tie for eighth place with 19 career rushing touchdowns, which ties him with Leroy Collins.
Senior linebacker
Robert McCune
registered his first career interception in the second quarter.
The crowd of 42,032 marked the third consecutive sellout for the Cardinals this season and ranks as the fifth-largest ever in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. U of L's opener against
Kentucky
drew 42,681, the largest ever in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
