Lady Cards add to impressive recruiting class

Posted Nov 30, 2004

Chauntise Wright has signed a national letter of intent to continue her playing career at the University of Louisville announced Cardinal head coach Tom Collen. The addition of Wright gives the Cardinals their best recruiting class in school history.

"This will be an impact class for us," said Collen. "We needed a versatile shooter, a great athlete that can run and press and a big post kid that loves the low block. And we found all of them in our early signing class. We still have a scholarship or two but if we stopped right now our future would look pretty good."

Wright, a 6-3 center from Forestville, Md., was the MVP of the Nike All-America Camp in 2003. Wright averaged 13 points and 14.5 rebounds per game her senior season at Bishop McNamara High School. She was ranked 45th in the nation by All Game Sports her senior season.

"Chauntise is the post player we have been looking for since I arrived 18 months ago," Collen said. "As we move into the Big East, we need a player who creates match-up problems on the low block. She has great hands, quick feet and a soft touch. She will remind our fans of Sharon Bellamy, a former player here at Louisville."

As a sophomore she was named an Underclassmen All-American by USA Today. She was also a three time Street & Smith All-America Honorable mention. Wright was also a McDonald's All-American Finalist last season.

Wright joins guard Neka Mixon and forward Angel McCoughtry in the early signing period.
