Following a few well-deserved days off, Bobby Petrino's Cardinal squad returned to the practice fields on Tuesday afternoon and according to the third-year head coach, the team's health is near full strength.

"We are in pretty good shape," said Petrino following the Cardinal's closed door practice.

While bumps and bruises are to be expected during fall camp and may limit a player for a practice session or two, the Cardinals - with a couple of exceptions - have stayed relatively healthy.

Foster worked out on Tuesday
Following a lengthy rehab recovering from a torn ACL suffered during the Cardinals fourth game of the 2004 season, a 59-7 win over East Carolina, junior offensive tackle Renardo Foster could once again rejoin the team at full strength later this week.

"Renardo is still not back at full speed," explained Petrino. "He was out today doing some work and it was good to get him out on the field. It looks like he might be back to full speed by the end of the week, which would give him a week to get ready for the game."

Unfortunately a shoulder injury to cornerback Bobby Buchanan, who has been one of the surprises of fall camp, has made his status for the 12th-ranked Cardinals season-opener at Kentucky questionable.

"Bobby Buchanan got dinged up the other day and hurt his shoulder," Petrino said. "We are still wondering how that is going to turn out and we probably won't know anything for a couple more days on his status for the game."

While both Foster and Buchanan are expected to play a role during the program's first season in the BIG EAST Conference, Petrino is pleased with the current health status of his team.

"Outside of [those two], I think we are alright."

Knock on wood.
