Entering the week ranked 8th in the USA Today/Coaches Poll, the Cardinals made a significant drop following their disappointing performance at South Florida on Saturday night. The 45-14 loss to the host Bulls dropped Louisville to 22nd in the latest USA Today/Coaches top 25.
Despite their dominating win, South Florida failed to garner any votes, while fellow Big East Conference member West Virginia, which improved to 4-0 on Saturday, is third among the others receiving votes.
New to the poll is undefeated Minnesota, which entered at No. 19, and Auburn at No. 24.
USC and Texas continued to top the poll, followed by Virginia Tech, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Florida State, Ohio State, Tennessee and Miami.
The Cardinals will return to action this Saturday at noon when they welcome Howard Schnellenberger and his Florida Atlantic Owls for homecoming.
