Florida lineman 'surprised' by U of L offer

6-foot-6, 300-pound Nease High School offensive lineman Clyde Yandell has collected three early scholarship offers

While he hasn't played a down on the offensive line since playing junior varsity ball, 6-foot-6, 300-pound Clyde Yandell of Nease High School in St Augustine, Florida, has already collected three scholarship offers for his projected college position.

"I have offers from Florida International, Louisville and Houston," Yandell told InsideTheVille.com, adding that the scholarship offer from U of L was unexpected. "I was surprised when Louisville offered. Coach Petrino text messaged me and told me that they had an offer for me."

"I called him after that and we talked for awhile," he continued. "He also emailed my dad to tell him about it."

Yandell will begin his transition from the defensive line with the start of spring practice on May 1.

"Right now I'm preparing for spring practice because the coaches are coming by," he said. "My coach keeps a schedule of what coaches are coming and I've seen names of some pretty prominent coaches on there. Seeing that helps to keep you motivated."

Yandell, who reports a 3.0 GPA, is looking for the perfect combination in a school and football program.

"I really want to find the best fit for me," he explained. "I'm looking for a good combination of where academics and athletics are both real good."

He recently visited Clemson for their junior day and attended Florida's spring game.

"I've been to schools before, but those were really my first unofficial visits," he said. "I might visit some more after spring football is over."

Auburn, Connecticut, Colorado, Duke and Michigan are also expressing interest in Yandell, who currently claims no favorites.
