Big things were expected from Brandon Cox this season after the junior defensive end recorded a team-high four sacks in Louisville's spring game.

But the 6'4, 250 pound junior hasn't seen the field through two games this season. Cox, who made eight tackles and a sack last season, missed the Cardinals season-opening 59-28 win over Kentucky because of injury. Then last weekend, Cox didn't travel with the team to Philadelphia for Louisville's 62-0 win over Temple.

"Brandon is doing good," Petrino said. "He didn't go on the trip with us last week. He had a shoulder injury, so he missed the first game. Then last week he had some personal issues."

Cox might play this Saturday against
Miami.

Though he didn't travel with his teammates last week, Cox returned to practice yesterday and Petrino hopes he can play this Saturday against No. 17 Miami and provide additional depth along the defensive front with tackle Adrian Grady out and end Jonathan Holston questionable to play.

"He was back out there at practice on Sunday flying around," Petrino said. "Hopefully he'll be healed up with his shoulder because we could use him and it would help our depth up front a lot."

Cox is listed No. 2 on the depth chart this week behind Peanut Whitehead, a 6'6, 245 pound freshman. Whitehead has made two tackles this season.
