Cold temperatures and the upcoming first spring scrimmage made for an intense practice on Wednesday

The cold temperatures and a constant wind didn't dampen the spirits during Louisville's fifth day of spring practice on Wednesday.

Emotions from the coaching staff and players were the highest yet this spring. One could sense that the players realize that spots on the first spring depth chart will be up for grabs on Thursday night.

Quick Hits:

  • Senior offensive lineman Danny Barlowe drew strong praise from coach Brent Myers for his efforts during 11-on-11 drills.
  • Linebacker Eugene Sowell intercepted a Hunter Cantwell pass that had been tipped in the defensive backfield. Secondary coach Mike Mallory sprinted to the end zone and was the first one to congratulate the redshirt freshman on the nice play.
  • Junior wide receiver Corey Thompson continues to do one thing well - catch balls.
  • Mike Donoghue is a name that continues to come up and for good reason. The sophomore offensive lineman has played well during the first week of practice and is proving to have the type of fire that coaches love to have in their linemen.
  • Sophomore running back Anthony Allen may have had his finest day this spring on Wednesday. As expected, Allen has been running first team all spring and appears to have the starting spot locked up to this point.
