"He's really thrilled that he has so many opportunities," said Mrs. Craig on Tuesday evening. "He's trying to get a feel for all the different schools and is looking for the best fit for him."
Craig, who is being recruited as both a safety and linebacker, joined his team for the start of night football earlier this week, bringing a new sense of focus and preparation.
"He's trying to stay as focused as he can on the upcoming season," Craig said. "They should have a pretty good team this year, so he's staying focused on being with the team."
In addition to Craig, Louisville has also offered teammate Darius Ashley, a Scout.com three-star running back, and is showing considerable interest in teammate Stephon Ball, a 6'foot-5, 210-pound wide receiver.
"Fred, Darius and Stephon are all very good friends and I know that they've talked about playing together in college as well," Ms. Craig said. "I think that would be a great situation for each of them."
While it's likely that his list of scholarship offers will continue to grow, Craig informed Scout.com earlier this month that Cincinnati, Duke, Louisville, Nebraska, Stanford, Vanderbilt and West Virginia are his schools of interest.
"He's really familiar with Louisville's program because they are so close," Craig said. "They have a really great program and are doing some good things there."
Craig currently has no plans to make his college decision and it's likely that he'll take his official visits this fall before making a commitment.
St. Xavier's season will begin on August 25 when they face Winton Woods in the Cincinnati Cross-town Showdown. The following weekend St. Xavier will face DeMatha (Md.) in the Kirk Herbstreit Ohio vs. USA Challenge on ESPN.
